The Center for Disabilities is South Dakota’s federally designated University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), part of a national network dedicated to strengthening independence, meaningful participation, and long‑term stability for individuals with disabilities. Established in 1971, we support communities across South Dakota, the region, and the nation through community education, clinical services, interdisciplinary training, technical assistance, research, information dissemination, and policy and advocacy.
Our work is grounded in the strengths, contributions, and lived experiences of individuals with disabilities. We believe every person can achieve independence, self‑determination, productivity, and full community integration when supported by knowledgeable professionals, responsive systems, and strong partnerships.
Across all initiatives, we remain committed to building a stronger future for individuals with disabilities, their families, and the workforce that supports them—fostering communities where people can contribute, participate, and thrive.
